One of the five aerial cableways in the Alpstein region operates from Wasserauen, near the town of Appenzell, to Ebenalp at 1644 m above sea level – the gateway to the Alpstein hiking region – and the “Wildkirchli”, a system of three caves noted for evidence of Palaeolithic habitation. But even more stunning is the position of the unique Aescher mountain inn, perched precariously on the rock face and captured countless times on postcards.
Thanks to its perfect location and excellent thermal conditions, Ebenalp is also a paragliding and hang-gliding paradise. Views extend over Lake Constance, the Black Forest, the Säntis and the Altman, as far as Austria. |
