The Alpstein mountain
chain in the Appenzell region of Switzerland is simply
spectacular. Jagged peaks soar up from peaceful cow-dotted
pastures to an altitude of 2500 metres. Picture-book perfect
Switzerland. But this is no photomontage, this is real. And
what’s more, relatively little-known outside Switzerland and yet
easily accessible. A hiker’s heaven with an around 1200km
network of walking and hiking trails. For the less energetic,
five different aerial cableways provide the easy way up to the
surrounding summits, including the Säntis, the highest in the
region.
