The village of Amden
nestles on a sunny terrace at 908m altitude in the canton of St.
Gallen, eastern Switzerland. The south-facing location, with
superb views of Lake Walen some 500 metres below, is fog-free
all year round. Amden is a hiker’s heaven, with over 100 km of
trails from easy to energetic. The top station of the Mattstock
chairlift at 1300m is an ideal starting point. Snow-sport
addicts are also well catered for with superb pistes,
cross-country ski runs and winter-walking and snowshoe trekking
trails. Amden also offers an extensive range of other leisure
options to suit all tastes, all-year-round. And in the Amden
Museum, culture lovers will find fascinating facts on local
history dating back to the earliest settlers in pre-Christian
times.
