“Welcome to Heaven” –
that’s the motto of Engelberg Tourism. And it is indeed a summer
and winter paradise. The village, at an altitude of 1050 metres,
does have a charm of its own, enhanced by the impressive
Benedictine monastery. The surrounding landscape is as stunning
as the word Switzerland can conjure up in your mind. Aerial
cableways whisk you up to dizzy heights, to hike, to ski, or to
simply rest, relax and reflect. Restaurants – from classy chic
to rustic romantic – extend a warm welcome to linger. Sports and
activities abound, whether summer or winter, whether easy or
energetic, from the calm of wood carving to the adrenalin rush
of abseiling. And a varied wellness programme ensures any amount
of laid-back leisure. Engelberg – “Angel Mountain” – it’s
heavenly.
