Located at the
south-western tip of Lac Léman, Geneva, undoubtedly
Switzerland’s most cosmopolitan city, is split by the River
Rhone leaving the lake. Only arrival by boat can clearly convey
the privileged position of the city, surrounded by simply
stunning scenery. The city enjoys a mild central-European
climate with relatively little rainfall.
Switzerland’s famous policy of neutrality has helped to
encourage over 200 international organizations to locate their
headquarters in the city. The city has an international airport
and good road connections to other parts of Switzerland and
nearby France. The discerning, wealthy community of
international civil servants and tax exiles ensures that the
city offers a wide range of excellent restaurants, top hotels
and entertainment – to the benefit of all visitors to the city.
The Genevois, if somewhat reserved, are an easy going, courteous
people.
Geneva’s landmark is the Jet d’eau (water fountain) which shoots
up to a height of 140 metres.
