Maienfeld, in
Switzerland’s Graubunden region, has welcomed guests from all
over the world for many years. Though Maienfelder wine is as
well-known as the international horse-races, Maienfeld’s main
claim to fame is as Heidi Country. This is where Johanna Spyri
(1827-1901) was inspired to write her famous story of Heidi and
Peter. A Heidi Path leads to the Heidi Village at Oberrofels and
to Heidi Alp on Ochsenberg altitude 1111 m. The Heidi Fountain
on the road to St. Luzisteig was inaugurated in 1953 to
commemorate the author. The original Heidi House is now a small
museum. However, there’s much more to Maienfeld than Heidi - the
historic town is extremely attractive and its surroundings
breathtakingly beautiful.
