St. Moritz, nestling at
over 1850 m above sea level, in the middle of the lovely
lakeland landscape of the Upper Engadine, is one of the world’s
most famous holiday resorts. Its dry, sparkling “champagne
climate” is legendary, as is its sunshine, reputed to beam down
on 322 days a year. St. Moritz is synonymous with chic,
elegance, exclusivity and a sophisticated cosmopolitan ambiance.
The resort’s initial fame was due to its therapeutic springs,
famous for over 3000 years. Today’s glitz and glamour stems from
its role as the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism, which took
off in the mid- 1860s, and as a venue for two winter Olympic
Games (1928 and 1948), not to mention numerous skiing and bob
World Championships. But winter or summer, St. Moritz guarantees
exceptional leisure and sporting attractions, cultural
highlights, world-class events, excellent restaurants and
top-class hotels. One of its must-see attractions is the White
Turf, an international horse racing event held on the frozen
lake. Definitely a time to see and be seen! The resort’s
fame is now so exceptional that the name St. Moritz has been
registered as an internationally protected trade mark – an
international symbol of quality.
