The Gornergrat, at
3,089 metres above sea level, is one of Switzerland's top
tourist attractions. It can be reached all year round by a
cogwheel railway running every 24 minutes from the centre of
Zermatt. The remarkable journey leads over impressive bridges,
through galleries, fertile forests, Alpine meadows and past
picturesque lakes and awe-inspiring rocky gorges. The Gornergrat
affords an unparalleled panorama with views of the Gorner
glacier – the second-largest glacier in the Alps – and 29 peaks
over 4,000 metres high, including the Monte Rosa massif, with
Switzerland’s highest summit – the Dufourspitze at 4,634 metres.
On the Gornergrat you’ll also find Switzerland’s
highest-altitude hotel, the 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat, with an
excellent restaurant, sunny terrace, shopping area and
observatory. An overnight stay here is an incredible experience.
